One of my clients recently purchased a 1964 Corvette Stingray in red. Anyway, it`s his baby and before winter comes he wants it completely detailed inside and out before putting it in storage for the winter. Anyway, just curious as to what advice or things to look out for on a detail like this. I`ve done a few other classics, 1965 Shelby Cobra to name 1 and a 69 Mustang and each had their own little things which made them challenging. Thought I`d ask here as I`m sure someone here has detailed one before.

First point, do not take a bucket and hose to it. The design of the doors curving up to meet the roof of the car lets water leak into the interior. I use ONR if I have to wash mine.

If the car is the Riverside Red color just remember that sun light affects the hue of the color dramatically. In early afternoon light mine will look orange. As the sun goes down the red deepens.

I don`t know if you`ll encounter this problem but the clear coat on mine is REALLY soft. Take your time and don`t get too frustrated if your most streak free products leave smears. The 64 Stingray is my most finnicky car to detail.

Thanks for the input. I was planning on ONRing the exterior. That just cemented that step in my mind.

I`ve detailed a `65 converitible, it had been repainted with a conventional base coat/clear coat though.

Do not scrub the cut loop carpeting, it will fuzz.

I found that I wanted to keep the rpms way down with the rotary and finish with a Cyclo on the stingray I detailed. A nice oily finishing polish (1Z MP, M80, etc) goes a long way on those old paints.

It`s a different game than the new paint systems, for sure. Holograms that return after time are a minor worry, burn-through is a major one.

I`m not sure as to if this vette was repainted or not. I do know that the interior is original and I`ll definitely be careful with the cut loop carpet.
