I left the winter details a little late last year and ended up running around in the cold and damp weather getting all the cars sorted. This year I started planning early with all the rain we had n the summer anyway, and when the forecast for last weekend said dry and warm I thought I’d go for it :thumb:
I used Collinite 476 last winter and while I fund great durability, I was very unimpressed with it for application. I think the cold damp conditions played a part, but I had horrible wax holograms that took countless QD and buffing sessions to get out, and I sold my tub :( Last winter I read loads about from Finish Kare and when it became available in the UK I had to try some :D
The car was wearing the tired remain of Zym0l Glasur over most of it, with some Collinite 845 on the lower panels. It’s about 85% swirl free so my plan was to wait until spring for a full polish and simply to give it a once over to clean and boost the finish, then to protect it. Process was as follows:
Cleaning
†Foam with x strong BH AF
†Wash with DG901
†Clay with BH soft clay – this destroyed the Zym0l but the 845 was intact afterwardsâ€10 months since claying and only the tinniest amount of contaminants and they were behind the wheel arches ☺
Wheels
†AS Smart Wheels
†Tardis as required
†Rinse and wash with DG901
†Clayed with BH soft clay
†2 x FK1000P Hi Temp
†Tyres with Z-16
Paintwork
†Mark V Glisten & IP200 80/20 mix on a 4†finishing pad @ 1450rpm
†2 x FK1000P Hi Temp
The finish from the FK1000P was superb – VERY bright and reflective. I had heard it described as like a ‘deeper thicker clear coat’ and I can see why. It literally looked like the car had a thin layer of glass over it – not a wet gloss so much as a crisp shine if that makes sense. Flake pop was excellent and the beading and sheeting is every bit as good or better than 476. I also hear it lasts every bit as long as 476 or perhaps even better ;)
