I detail on the side, been doing it for about 20 years, not a "pro" but do "pro-type" work. the dealer wants to know what the cost is to fix this, and wont accept my word for it. just wanted to see what others might think it would cost to repair the dealer damage.

Picasa Web Albums - Brian - jennifers CTS (http://picasaweb.google.com/briandrice/JennifersCTS#) heres some before. I had the finish better than it ever was when it was sitting on the showroom floor.

the wifes blue chip cts wouldnt start the other morning, and gm roadside had to come get it and take it to the dealer. I go to pick it up last night, and find 3 scratches in the paint where the door hit the lift that went thru to the primer, then in the sunlight the car looked like it was washed with a dirty brillo pad....***! i spent like 10-15 hours on it 2 weeks ago trying to get it perfect and hadnt even had a chance to wash it myself since I finished the detail....the dealer has never washed the car before and its been much dirtier before when it was in for an oil change or whatever.....why cant dealers get people that can wash a car without ruining the finish!!!!

I don`t get your question...

Are you asking how much you should charge the dealership to fix the blue CTS?

Are you asking how much it will cost YOU to fix the chips in the door?

Sorry I didn`t get your question, Just seems like it was stated very well...

Frankly, I don`t see the chips. But, the only way to make it right, and have only minimal `reduced value`, is to respray the entire panel.

Regarding the swirling, what makes you think the dealer CAN fix it?

In my shop we`d eliminate the swirls and apply a synthetic sealant for $165.

Good Luck!

not the chips, they want to paint that, I want them to pay to polish the paint back out to remove the swirls that they put in it.

Talk to your insurance than I believe. If you have the dealer fix it, they will get their hack to "fix" it or hire someone to come to them and fix it. I suggest to get it fixed by someone on Autopia and then get reimbursted somehow.

Or walk in and say fix what you caused and if they give you crap, just mention lawyer. :p

Good Luck bud.

Polish back to perfect? You`d be looking at roughly 400, as swirls that deep are probably going to need cut with wool -> refine with foam -> burnish with foam to really perfect.

I always have a hard time having the same place that screwed something up fixing their own mistake. Take it somewhere else and send them the bill. But am I confused here. Didn`t you say that you had polished it yourself in the first place. It is awefully tough to get a Dealership to pay you back for your own work.

Honestly if it was me, I would let them repaint the panel then just polish the car again. I know it is frustrating, but atleast you know it will be done right. Don`t get me wrong, I would be pissed off as well but concentrate on the door scratches and set a date with your cars paint. I have a love affair with my cars paint and these are usually the cheaper kind of dates.
