Currently when we do a detail part of the process is we inspect the car after the wash/claybar process to identify any areas that need attention for polishing out scratches etc.
Some cars have a lot and are hard to remember so what we do is mark each spot with a small piece of masking tape. The tape is removed and the spot polished out .. works great except you have to pick the tape off and put it somewhere , usually on the top of the buffer.
Last nite at a trade show I ran into a felt type pen that is water soluable. The sales rep gave me a black one and we used it today.
We marked a few spots and just polished right over the "X" and it came off in a milli-second.
Its available in all colors but all you would need is black & white.
