what would you guys recommend for a vacuum cleaner for your rugs, carpet etc. just your normal auto care. this will be just for personal use not professional use

A good shop vac would be about the best for you.....I have one and you can use as a vac for dry and water applications.....have a look around and you can find one on sale.....that`s my .02

About a 3-5 HP model from Home Depot or Lowes will be more than adequate for home use. You`ll usually have a bit more power than you need but when you go to suck water out of your carpets you`ll be glad you have the extra power. Craftsman has a good one for about $50, can`t remember the specs but it`s a nice vac.

I suggest a Rigid brand vac.

this may sound crazy but i use two depending on what im doing. If im just vacumning the truck i use my dyson and if im doing anything wet wise good old wet/dry shop vac. Get the biggest you can afford you be suprise how many things you end up using a shopvac for.
