I know people always say to detail a car in the shade. But how much of a difference does this really make? I am forced to detail outside (garage cannot handle the ammount of water that would come from a full wash), and due to the gradient of the ground, I cannot put up a canopy of any sort.
Ideas or thoughts?

It can be bad news if the water dries before you can get the vehicle toweled down.
It is also difficult to get all the soap rinsed off well.
When I have to wash in the sun, (just my own vehicles), I will wash and rinse the body, keeping it wet all the time, drive into the garage and dry it. Then I pull back outside and do the tires. wheels and wheelwells last. Not the preferred method, but when necessary it works for me.
QEW and Spray & Wipe are a couple of alternatives that I have used in the garage. Did the van with QEW and my wife`s GTP with Spray & Wipe this week and had good results with both.
