Hey guys,

Last year I really got into car detailing and bought all the gear for it but ended up not using any of the items. To get to the point I opened my brand new porter cable out of the box today about 1 year and 3 months after I ordered the PC + Lake Country Pad package from Autogeek. I used it for about a good 30min on setting 1 since I didnt know at first there were higher settings but about 15min in I smelled burning plastic. At 30 min I had to use the griip handle to polish or else it would be so hot that my skin would get burned. Anyone else had this happen? Im considering whether I should just cut my losses and buy a new one or what? Im using a power outlet in my garage if that matters any.

Any ideas are helpful thanks guys.

I know they get hot from the friction that anything moving that fast would produe, but so hot it burns your hand, I might call Porter CAble on that one.

You already started one thread about this same problem:

Did you ever check to see if the backing plate was rubbing against the PC housing? Did you check the link I provided to see if there was a service center near you? Or are you just waiting for someone to tell you to buy a new one?

If you decide on buying a new one stay away from the Griots. Look at another PC or better yet a UDM, Meg`s G110 (http://www.autodetailingsolutions.com/meguiars-G110-polisher.htm), or a Flex 3401 (http://www.detailersdomain.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=246).

FWIW, Most ACE hardware stores are authorized service centers.
