I just got some new Pirelli P Zero`s today, and they have a dull coating on them that hasn`t come off yet. I`ve tried a diluted white lightning & scrub brush, followed by some Megs Hot Shine. While they look somewhat better, the film is still on the tires.

Many years ago it used to be a soap-like coating that would come off with water & a brush. Not this stuff. It beads water & even the white lightning to some extent. Even the Megs Hot Shine tire foam just runs off.

Any suggestions?

Thanx!

It`s a mold-release chemical that will wear off in 500 miles or so. Probably best just to keep them clean in the meantime, and the chemical will find its way off.

I`ve never found anything that cuts it really well...

Simple Green works pretty good; as does Westley`s Bleach White and a stiff nylon brush.

Scorching hot water will help, as will a steam cleaner or a heated pressure washer.

Hi-Temp tire/rubber cleaner from TOTL is the best I`ve ever found. It cleans rubber better (and cheaper) than anything I`ve found to date and it`s my go-to tire cleaner when crud just won`t budge.

It`s so good I only have to use it once in a while, the normal otc products keep the tires looking sharp otherwise.

Give it consideration,

Straight up degreaser will get that junk off.

Thanx for all the responces & great advice.

I tried using brillo (very gently) with some success. I`m a little hesitant to apply the very hot water as the wheels were just repainted in hyper-black, although I bet it would probably stand the best chance of removiving it the coating on the tires.

Unfortunately, it`s been a few weeks and over 500 miles and they still have a milky coating on them. Black car + Silver wheels + Grey tires = uninspiring looks:mad:

I`ll keep you updated with any progress. Thanx again.
