Hey Guys,

I’m new here but have been viewing the forum on a daily basis. I’ve always found pride in keeping my car as clean as possible and I am a little OCD when it comes to having things organized and proper looking as I’m sure most of you are. I am currently in college, finishing up my last semester this fall, and therefore leave washing my car until I am back home for a weekend visit or during long breaks. That being said, I planned on bring youth back to my car this summer through cleaning, claying, polishing, waxing and replacing a few interior parts that have seen better days.

My problem comes with the exterior though. I have some paint chips on the hood from rocks and various other elements (see pictures below). I was wondering how I might go about correcting these spots. I have read several “how-to’s†on chip correction and I believe it’s something I can handle. A couple of the spots have developed rust over the years and I would like to address those areas as soon as possible to minimize any further damage. My father has told me that he has some type of jelly that eats away at rust but leaving the car metal and paint surrounding areas fine. I guess my question regarding that is, do any of you happen to know of a decent rust removing agent that is easy to apply?

Also, I was wondering my steps here, I am assuming:

1. Wash the area

2. Apply the de-rusting agent

3. Clean again

4. Apply paint and wait to cure

5. Wet sand with a uni-grit 2500-3000 grit

6. Polish

Now since I have a clear coat on my car, I wasn’t sure when to or how to apply that. Also with the Polishing, since the sanding will probably create deeper marring, is it recommended to use a rubbing compound first?

Thank you in advance guys.

Sorry about the quality of the pictures, I am probably 1 of 300 people in the world who still doesn`t have a digital camera so I used my phone.
