I need a safe OTC wheel cleaner. I got some advance auto cleaner and it looks like little specs on my wheel`s lip are coming off after using it. The bottle says safe for any wheel but it seems like just a marketing line?

Second of all, I searched around and tried to figure out how to tell if a tire dressing is water based or silicone based, but I couldn`t find any hard facts. I want a cheap water based dressing because it seems like those are better for the tire. Any good OTC ones?

Thanks for your help.

I got some AA tire shine actually but thought it was a silicone base. Thanks Al.

The safest wheel cleaner is normal car shampoo and a sponge!!!!!

I`ve become a big fan of Meguiar`s Quik Wheel Detailer.

Cleans well and leaves the wheel very slick.

As for tire dressing... I first clean the tires with my pressure washer then I use their Hot Shine Tire spray. I spray this on to an old terry pad and apply a very thin coat and it lasts long and doesn`t sling.

Here is this combo on an 18 year old wheel.

and on a newer wheel.

And after three weeks and three washings it`s still there.
