Cruising along at night in Arkansas, somewhere around Hope:

20 minutes later, I am passing a semi, swerve to avoid what appears to be a large tarp covering something, right into the path of a ****ing driveshaft. Fubared the left front wheel:

Tire didn`t make it either:

To make a long and beautiful story short and ugly, rolled into Little Rock on a donut spare at 3:30 am, hotel wanted $120, **** that, slept in my car (sort of) next to the Nissan dealer. $1100 for a new wheel, **** that. They found me a used one for $224 and had me back on the road around noon.

Eastern Arkansas weirdness:

Heading into Memphis:

Met with the owner of Optimum Polymer Technology (Dr. G), he bought me lunch at a nice Mexican restaurant in Memphis.

Saw this just outside of Memphis. Ugh.

Made it about 20 miles past Jackson, Tennessee. By now it was 6:30 PM and I had now been up 34 hours with maybe 1 hour of sleep (due to the wheel problem) so I stopped at a Days Inn. Woke up around 3 AM and got back on the road. I was so tired when I stopped, I didn`t notice what was next to the hotel until I woke up:

The Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, KY:

My trip computer`s mileage estimate was optimistic, closer to 27 mpg. :sad2:

Cops were everywhere on the way to Kentucky:

Yes, this is a real sign in northern Kentucky (just south of Florence):

Hey, that was great, Scott! What was with that wood, was it falling off the truck or was that just the shape of it?

I see that you were in close proximity to the adult bookstore, did you happen to purchase any..... books?

When I woke up at 3 AM (I had stopped at 6:30 PM and went right to sleep), it was already closed. :(

ScottWax- Thanks for sharing the trip with us! Sorry to hear about that driveshaft incident, but at least it didn`t turn out worse.

Where did you stop for Mexican in Memphis? Was is Molly`s by any chance? They are pretty good, but there are a few others also...

And, yes, unfortunately we have more than our fair share of far beyond riced out cars here. It actually quite amazing the crap you see here and what some folks will do to just about anything!

It was over near where Optimum`s manufacturing facility is, near where N. Parkway turns into Summer Avenue. I had chicken enchiladas covered in salsa verde.

Great getting to talk to the good doctor too, he really knows the business. Plus, it is nice to talk detailing to someone who actually gets it. :)

Scott, I`m pissed you didn`t stop at Big Bone Lick...you could`ve seen the fake Mammoths.

Man, you were just an hour north of me. I would`ve bought you a beer. Oh well...I may be in Dallas for a week later on this summer.
