Hey guys, I`m new to detailing and hope someone can help with a question. I waxed my car with NXT 2.0 paste this weekend and today I noticed some splotches on the hood during cloudy skies.

I washed the car Saturday, did some spot polishing with a random orbital, washed and dried again, and then applied two coats of NXT paste. Everything looked good when I pulled the car out into the sun after I finished, but I noticed some splotches over the entire hood today when it was cloudy.

This is the first time I`ve used NXT paste...actually first time I`ve ever waxed a car. I worked in the shade, did small portions at a time applying with a MF applicator, let dry for 15-20 minutes, and then buffed off with MF towels. Did I use too much/too little NXT? Did the MF marr the surface? I`d appreciate any insight you guys could offer.

looks like too much wax was used

if a wash takes care of it that is the problem

I had the same problem on my black car. A wipe down with a QD does the trick.

I had the same problem with Meg`s #21 2.0...i cant stand their new sealants..they all do this in my opinion...i applied mine plenty thin and it still did this...i would try washing like was stated above and after a few days it will go away if it behaves like mine did...but it muted my flakes and gave a saran wrap appearance..i hated it and redid it in 2 weeks with Natty`s Blue and Jetseal 109

I think it can look uneven if the paint isn`t clean. Did you use a polish or cleaner on the hood also?

The QD took care of it. I called myself putting it on very thin, but have since found some pictures of what the NXT dried looks like.....and I was putting way too much on.

Thanks alot for the help guys.

I had this happen with both versions of NXT and 21... Very typically of heavy oil based products...

What you have is what is generally called streaking.

It can happen under a number of conditions:

too much wax used and not removed properly - requires follow up

surface not cleaned and prepped properly

humidity

wax not allowed to dry long enough before removing

and just for no reason other than to p@#s you off! ;)

i agree. i have found that applying too much product will cause this :hairpull. IW 845 will also do this when applied too thick.

I have had this problem when the surface temp was too high and/or when it was very humid outside. Megs Sealants seem to be sensitive to environmental conditions.

Either too much product or there is still some wax on the vehicle (i say that because if you take a damp MF towel and wipe the car once over it will solve this problem. Ive had this problem even when using small amounts of wax. Usually on black cars and usually on hot summer days. Maybe its a mystery?! lol
