So for the past couple DAYS I have been detailing my car. One reason it has taken so long is that I have had a dent repair guy working on it for the last 2 days. So i couldnt really pay a lot of attention to the body...but the interior looks amazing.

Here is where Im having a problem. I wet sanded a couple areas on the body with 2000 grit (highest I could find without ordering from the internet) Now, I dont have a fancy power buffer. All I have is one of those 7" orbital buffers from Pep Boys (who I hate BTW) I am using 3M rubbing compound to take out the wet sand scratches. It takes me a good 3 to 4 applications to get the paint looking good.

Is this normal? Am I doing something wrong? I know my form of application is part of the problem, but its all I got for now.

Also, after I wipe the rubbing compound off after every coat I seem to get a lot of dried product (dusty) that is all over the paint.

How can I get this stuff off? I dont have a duster or anything like that. Whats the trick?

Thanks, and sorry about the n00bness
