I have not posted a C & B here in a long time. Here is a unique car that I thought might be of interest. It`s a pretty rare car in that it`s a 1942 (not a lot of cars made during the war) and it`s a convertible to boot. I have never taken so long with a car as this one. I was 18 hours in total on it and was very pleased with the results. The car was NOT painted by RM which became very obvious as I started to examine it closely. The owner is a very cool, laid back kinda guy who told me "Just make it as good as you can". Now there`s a challenge I was up to. Enough rambling, on to the process:

Fender skirts removed

Top pw`d and then treated with ARO and pw`d again

Wheel wells done with ARO and pw`d

Wheels done with Surf City

Tires with ARO

Whitewalls cleaned with Magic Eraser

Paint washed with 2 bucket method

Dried initially with leaf blower, then ww mf

Multiple touch ups

Re-install fender skirts

Compound with UCCL, wool pad with Rotary

Polished with Rotary, gray pad, 106ff

Glazed with CG WMF via Rotary, blue pad

DG 601 by hand

DG 105 by hand

AW after curing period (usually the next day)

Wheels were done with DG 501 and sealed with CG JS

Tires dressed with DP gel, including white walls which were wiped clean after a dwell period

Wells dressed with Adams Undercarriage spray

All chrome was either treated with DG 501 if not bad, followed by JS or treated with 106ff followed by JS on the surfaces that were worse.

Convertible top was covered with blankets during all polishing but still needed a vacuum after as well as a going over with a lint brush.

Paint surfaces that were not able to be reached with the wheel were done by same products by hand

Glass done with IG

Carpets treated with Folex

Mats shampoo`d

Door panels and interior surfaces (paint, chrome, leather not including seats) were treated with 303

Door jams with ONR followed by 303

Leather seats were cleaned with DG leather cleaner and conditioned with DG conditioner (I found these 2 products very close to the smell and results of the Zaino pair)

Engine compartment wiped down with ONR

Love to see the old classics cared for like this. Exceptional work. Your arm is probably in a sling after polishing all that chrome and grill work. ;) Time to drop the top and cruise down the boulevard.

This one brought a tear to my eye. I can just hear my father, may he rest in peace: now THAT`S a car!! Magnificent work. If you ever get a chance to see the Peter Falk movie "The thing about my folks" you might enjoy seeing a gorgeous old Ford Deluxe. But it still ain`t no Caddy...

Thank you karburn..the chrome took a bit of work, but I was delighted at how it came out.

These classics evoke emotions that the cars nowadays just can`t. It`s neat working on a piece of history!
