Trying to decide which to use on my 02 Corvette, 03 Mustang and two other vehicles. Have not used either in the past. Will be used with PC7424

Any suggestions?

Welcome to Autopia! :)

Are you going to be using a DA or rotary buffer?

I have and use both .But I tend to lean more to the edge design for the easy ability to swap pads between differnt sizes with out having to change a backing plate. But you won`t go wrong with either .

I`m starting to give the Edge pads a go this weekend. Wool anyway, the foam won`t be here until next week.

I like the Edge pads since you can change from 6" to 4" and vice versa without the hassle of changing backing plates.

BUFF AND SHINE! :shocked Their pads beat out LC and Edge in the professional market. If you are serious about using the best go with their pads. Most people don`t realize a Buff and Shine pad when they see it because they private label for the most of the big brand name polish comapanies that have their name on the pads. Try them you will not be disappointed.

Not so much interested in how quickly I can change pads sizes, but in the finsh I will be able to obtain using the pads. Will the Edge pads outlast the LC pads and perform better for a longer period of time, or vice versa.

This will be my first foray into the ultimate detailing world using a PC, I`ve always hand waxed my vehicles.

Thanks everyone for sharing their thoughts and ideas, this site is a world of knowledge for us weekend warriors

I am now using both. I like the EDGE product better, due to the quick change, dual sides and quality of their design(s). This is not saying that the LC products are substandard at all. I just prefer the convenience of the EDGE pads a bit more.

I can tell you this for sure, you can`t go wrong with either.

Danny, nobody asked about Buff N Shine, yet you have shilled them on every single post you have made on this forum. They are average at best, and this forum, luckily, has higher standards, which is why Buff N Shine have never caught on here. I am going to report you to a moderator who will hopefully ban you for this behavior, its getting old.

Back to the orginal question, I tried Edge pads and did not like the feel of them. I am used to a regular backing plate, so the Edge pads feel to stiff for me. Also, I had two seperate problems (including one ripping in half).

I hype their stuff because it really is the best. I also post about all other kinds of stuff too not just pads. I admit, I didn`t notice how old this post was when i saw it or I wouldn`t have...

You can get 2-4 cars per pad if you spur with Buff and Shine pads. :2thumbs:

Denzil...OMG LOL...The information I gave you can take to ANY company that sells that brand and buy. I recommend Buff and Shine because it is the brand that professional car washes, detailers and...

Go with a Buff and Shine 6 1/2" black foam pad and 3M 05996, this is what any reputable body shop would use. This is for true correction and does not contain any fillers, silicones, or waxes. That...

If you are after a local source, check for a local professional car wash/detail supplier and see if they carry Buff and Shine pads (you most likely won`t find them in a retail store). They are hands...

This is not an entirely true portrait of history. This maybe based off your experiences at the time. Several other companies had many, many more pads in wool and foam then what you stated. Buff and Shine, Lake Country, Schlegel, and 3M just to name a few. In foam, Buff and Shine and Lake Country had a variety of PPI (Pores Per Inch)options and colors available. In wool compounding you had 100% wool pads in 4ply twist to 1ply twist. For light compounding and heavy polishing there were wool blends from 4ply twist to a standard wool pads. Finishing pads were from wool blends to 100% wool and even sheep skin pads that had the hide visible on the backside. All these pads were also avaible in a variety of colors. The original purpose for having different colors in wool was so that in detail shops they could differentiate which pads, had which products on the pads.

I do agree not every paint is the same. Every car has been exposed to different environments and that should always be takin into consideration. There is always an extreme case or special circumstance, from cars with horrible paint to the garage kept show car that has never had anything other than a hand polish and waxing. For the "average" or "newer" car a compounding pad is not needed, since you are only polishing the clear coat and never make it to the actual paint. In that circumstance you would clay the car first then move to a pad like the Buff and Shine 7503GY (polishing pad) or 7510G (Finishing pad) depending on the condition of the clear after claying. Use these with a mild cleaner/polish. As with any pad keep the pad flat, lower rpms, and do not burn the pain with too much heat.

For those that have never used a Buff and Shine pad, I highly recommend it. They make their pads for the professional detail market and car wash market. 70-80% of their pads are private labeled and sold under other names. I can`t say enough for their products.

Here are some of your previous posts, and only one post was on topic. Not to mention bringing up 4 year old posts... Out of 21 posts, 12 where unsolicited Buff and Shine plugs, similar to this thread... Nobody asked about it, but it didn`t stop you from mentioning it. And here is the best part, you constantly mention the "professional market" which this place is a safe haven from.

I am really beginning to wonder about your association with Buff and Shine. Are you shilling for them? Of your 21 posts on this forum the majority of them mention Buff and Shine. It`s one thing to mention a product that you like and use frequently.

It`s another to promote. Perhaps you need to re-read the forum rules on Commercialism and Promoting.

Try visiting WASHWAY`s homepage link in his profile?? He only sells Buff & Shine pads. Sounds like he`s got alot to gain by promoting his products?

Good job. Well done. This forum isn`t a sleezy sales brochure.

Now to the EDGE products...

I get your meaning on the pads feeling different. I agree the EDGE seem a harder. What pads failed for you and under what circumstances? I use EDGE quite a bit and have not had any issues at all. How old were they and how much use had they seen? Have you ever had any issues with the LC products?

Thanks!
