Hey,

I`m trying to polish a black 07 VW GTI, car looks like it hasnt really been taken care of very much thus lots of swirls.

I`ve tried to use the PC7424 with Menzerna PowerGloss but looking at the light, there still seem to be small scratches?

Any suggestions on what to use to get them out?

I`ve heard that VWs have a hard clear coat, is it worth getting the Menzerna PO106FF and will it help??

Can you explain your process a bit more? VAG paint is very tough sometimes. Pics would help though.

I have used the 7424 with orange pad and Menzerna PowerGloss followed with white pad and FinalPolish.

Here are pics of the cars paint before:

And this is after the above described method...basicly, there still are small scratches/swirls that i cant seem to remove...The paint is much better than it used to be, but there are still these little swrils:

I worked on a Jetta a few years ago that had horrific scratching on the horizontal surfaces. Kinda looked liked somebody pushed huge sheets of ice/snow off the panels...the damage was very uniform.

I was fairly aggressive with the PC, but it turned out not to be the right tool for the job. All I did was make the hood glossy, most the of the deep scratches remained with only minor improvement. I dunno, if I had a few hours and used the rotary, I may have had a different result. I ran out of time and handed the owner his keys back and that was the end of it.

pc on a vw, ha! Maybe if you have 3 weeks.

I prefer to use SIP and 106FF just cause it makes my life a lot easier on VWs. And yes, I use a rotary...although that`s kind of a prerequisite for me.

I was under the impression that newer VW`s had softer paint...

Anyways, try using 4" pads. That is the only way I can correct my black Jetta with a PC, otherwise try a rotary. You would be amazed what a rotary with a white pad and the same polish can do compared to a PC on VW paint.

You`ll need a rotary to dig deep enough to remove swirls on VW paint as it is just too hard for a PC to get perfect.

so even the lighty M105 and a 4" orange won`t work on VW paint? I have the same car but have managed to keep the swirls down even after 15 months of owning it. I hand polished it with meg`s crystal but never used my PC on it...yet

I haven`t used M105 with a PC, but I`m guessing that there isn`t much in the way of a clear coat out there that it won`t cut. Even with a PC.

To the OP: alot of what you are seeing are swirls that are deeper than what you`ve been able to cut with the MPG so far, and some of it is compounding marks left from the MPG. You might want to consider doing another application (or possibly two) of MPG, then follow it up with at least two applications (preferably three) of Menzerna PO106FF. You really *need* to have PO106FF to get any sort of polishing with a PC on that hard VAG clear coat. PO106FF was specifically designed for use on hard clear coats, and you need all the help you can get to make up for the week correcting ability of the PC. 4" pads will really help, too. The PO106FF will help to remove the compounding swirls that the MPG is going to leave.
