How do most of you guys go about polishing the roof of a car? Do you stand on a chair or open a door and stand on the door sill?

Step ladder/step stool.

I use the door sill sometimes but mostly for the front half of the roof. Most of the times I step up onto the back tire to reach the rear half of the roof. But I`ve been somewhat lucky because most of the taller vehicles I do have some sort of roof rack that I can hold onto.

I think of all parts I like doing the roof the least.

I`ve got a two-step stool that I use for most cars, and a three-step one for trucks & SUV`s.

I have an aluminum folding 4 step ladder and a folding platform similar to this one (http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10051&langId=-1&catalogId=10053&productId=100042682&N=10000003+90401) that I use to get the top of most cars and trucks. Anything taller than that I will have to get out the folding scaffold (http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10051&langId=-1&catalogId=10053&productId=100000428&categoryID=501109)

This little scaffold works great for me.
