Hey there everyone Ive got a quick question for you. Im about to use my makita 9227c on my celica this coming weekend and I was wondering how would you guys polish this ledge?I highlighted it in green to show what Im talking about. Its about 5 inches wide, and I was wondering if I use a 6.5inch pad on it would it cause any holograms since theres about 1.5inch of pad that is not in contact with the paint? THe reason I ask is because some holograms are caused by not keeping the pad flat or if the back end of the pad is not in contact with the paint. thanks!

I`m not an experienced rotary user but from what I have read on here, in this case as long as the surface of the pad is flat on the surface you are polishing you should be okay.

In the second pic it looks like there are holograms there already, unless that is a reflection of clouds or something?

edit: if you have a PC, you can use it on that portion. That is what I normally do.

I wouldn`t use an 8" pad first off, I think I would be running with a 6.5" pad. Secondly I would tape off the trim, then angle the polisher. You could use a small pad if you want

I use 4" edge2000 pads on my makita for spots like that :)

Another plus is I never worry about the backing plate hitting the side, if anything hits the side its the same foam I am polishing with.

Tape off the trim, use a slower speed and less pressure on the pad. Check your work, IPA wipe if needed.

First tape up the trim and use a 4 inch pad since there stay flatter on small parts like that on the body. Use the extension from you rotary incase you get to close to parts you don`t want to damage.
