My friend has an `02 Formula Firebird with an LS1 and he thinks he wants a detail. If it happens it will probably be tomorrow. Is there anything specific I should watch out for when cleaning the engine? I think I remember something about the opti-spark ignition not being able to get wet. What should I cover when cleaning? I plan to use dilluted simple green, agitate it, and spray off, nothing fancy. I will try to post pics in the click and brag if I do end up detailing it, its a pretty cool car.

LS1`s don`t have opti-spark. I`ve wahsed my engine without issue. Put a baggie around the MAF just to be safe.

I think you should also cover up the air intake and distributor. I wrap anything that even looks electrical in saran wrap. Better safe than sorry.

I wish my car had coil packs that looked JUST like the ones on your avatar. I would never cover them up.............:xyxthumbs

I even wash my old transam engine without covering the distrubutor, but I did cover the coil.

I dont cover anything when I clean an engine, just dont spray directly into the alternator or ECU (if exposed) and you should be fine.

OK, thanks guys. I am really wanting to do this detail because I love the car. Unfortunately he is on the fence due to the cost. I am only charging $100 because he is a friend of mine. I am doing full interior detail, engine detail, and as much paint correction as my UDM, Menz polishes, and CCS pads can accomplish. I plan on working on it for about 12 hours. How can you complain about $100?!
