Not a detailer, but I just set up two websites on my own - one through Network Solutions, one through GoDaddy. Night & Day. NS is fairly simple to DIY. Easy to change, fairly intuitive, and fast. You can do custom page titles, meta tags, and all that good stuff. For a DIY template is very customizable - you can probably change 90% of it. The next site I did (started to do) was with GoDaddy. It`s the most horrendous, nonsensical template I`ve ever tried to use. I mean it`s bad. Like it was written by a 3rd grader. Nothing works the way you think it would, and every time you change between screens, expect a 10-15 second delay. Their tutorial & help sections are worthless. I bet I`ve done over a dozen template sites over the years and this is the only one I`ve ever given up on. It`s so bad that I`m switching it over to NS from GD. And GD does not do refunds (paid for a year).

The NS is a dollar or two more expensive a month, but well worth it. Also, you can build it w/o buying it (30 day trial), so you can see how you like it. It will probably take 30 minutes or so to get the hang of it, but once you understand what each screen accomplishes, it`s pretty straight forward.

I`m using BlackBoxHQ right now. Service has been pretty good thus far and I love the features for tracking visits and such. Haven`t had one issue. I believe they do web site design too.

Edit: I do NOT recommend this company anymore. Story here: ***BEWARE of BlackBox HQ!*** - what happened to my site - TorontoMazda3 (http://www.torontomazda3.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=29645)

I would avoid the corporate hosts like NS and GoDaddy. I am currently using a host that I am familiar with from my days of being part of an ecommerce community around a shopping cart product called Miva Merchant. The host is Hostasaurus Web Hosting, Miva Merchant Hosting, Dedicated Miva Servers (http://www.hostasaurus.com/).

Sal uses them for the Zaino store.

They are based in Tampa and have been around for years.

Check `em out...

GoDaddy for me, simple to set up with their website tonight software that is all template based. Took only about 3 hours to put a basic site together and launch it the same day. Im not looking for a bling bling site. I just need a place to put pictures, basic information and contact info. Im in the process of setting up my gallery now.

Very happy with GoDaddy customer service and price. Price will vary depending on what type of plan you go with and how long you are registering your domain for. I chose 10 years and 1 year hosting and came in at under 145 bucks.

Dont make fun of it, its my first one but I like it. Gonna do some massage work as time goes on too.

I`ve heard good things about 1and1, but I ended up with Godaddy. They offer the most services and are cheap.

If you are registering a domain name, check with google. I registered names with them for $1.50 per year. You can host your email with them @yourdomain for free. You can host your site with them as well. They aren`t real advanced yet, but the hosting is currently free, and Google will only be getting bigger.

I`ve set up many sites for giant corporations, so if you would like any help, pm me.

If you don`t need back end support for PHP, MySQL, or anything else, stick with the simpler sites. Check out Google Apps - Welcome to Google Apps (http://www.google.com/a/help/intl/en/index.html)

I have been using 1and1 for the last 7-8 years and so far their hosting and support has been great. I only have 1and1 hosting my site, my domains are parked at GoDaddy. I do not trust any web host to have control over my site and domain name.
