Holograms a-plenty

Apparently the dealer used sander versus a buffer

Equipment - UDM with LC Orange pad

So I am getting somewhere with the paint. BTW, this is a brand new car, spending it`s life on the dealer showroom. Sad, eh? I have spent 6 hours correcting so far, getting the hood, bumper, and most of the passenger side done, but geez is it slow. I am constantly going back after seeing a hologram I missed or a slight swirl. My problem is that the 5.5" pads are too big for the lines on the car, I should have gotten some 4" ones. Live and learn.

I am exceptionally happy with SIP. I was a little hesitant because of the price, but Autopia swayed me to get it and I am glad I did.

Questions I have, though. First, I am not 100% satisfied. I notice a few imperfections here and there that I cannot seem to get out. It`s odd, because I pretty much cleaned up a deep dash on the front bumper (granted with a yellow pad), but these little ones don`t want to come out. What is wrong?

Is it normal for it to take this long for this condition paint?

Will Z-PC be fine to polish with after SIP? I only have SIP, Scratch X, and Z-PC available right now. I`d have to order something else if these are not good to use after something like SIP.

I have needed to use speed 6 more than once for stubborn scratches. Is this unwise with a rotary? I seem to have really good luck with it so far. This has only been with my orange pads, btw.

You said you were using a UDM right? You should not be getting holograms with a UDM? maybe you are not using the proper term to describe what you are seeing. Also i have not used a UDM, only PC and Flex but from what i gather the UDM is almost the same as the PC and speed 6 is normal for the type of correction you are doing.

The holograms are in the paint from the beginning. Basically the swirls are being removed and sometimes the holograms are left, even with my slow process. You can kind of see the holograms in the last photo, under the swirls.

I do get faint holograms with my heavy cutting pad, which comes out quickly with an orange pad.

So the Holograms are left from the dealer? I guess when i hear holograms i think buffer trails from a rotory. I have had really good luck with the 4" pads on my PC, you should get some for the future to try.

Yes, they must have detailed it at one point. The trails run front to back across the entire side. Interestingly enough, there was nothing on the hood, just swirls there.

I noticed the problem after I washed the car down with Dawn. Apparently they had an awful lot of fillers to hide everything.

Light polish on a white pad should clear up any holograms in my experience even on black!

Maybe what you are seeing is hazing?? Although I don`t think you should get that with SIP. And are you using fresh pads? I know your pads are new, but remember not to let them get caked up with polish. That could be why it`s not cutting enough to remove the holograms.

Well I think I figured out my issue. Running speed 6 is cleaning up the holograms.

Is sapphire black overly hard, or is SIP less effective when it`s cold? I ask this because I am having trouble getting out some of the swirls, even with a yellow pad. I had assumed that SIP would be able to get them out. They are definately just swirls as they cannot be felt with my nail. I`m on orange pad number 4 so far. The other three have been cleaned and are drying now. Almost done with the initial stage!
