I just got a `78 911SC and the car was sitting for 10 years. The paint can tell. It looks like I can polish it so it will look ok. I have started with some polishing compount and it starts to shine.

Here is a picture before, looks like I have some work to do.

`I have a sander - polisher from Craftsman, not really that good and MG polishing compount. I found some really bad spots, where I used 1500 grid wet sand paper first. I have to very carefull not to remove to much paint. Some one did a lousy paint job on that car.\r\n\r\nI will post some pics of the places I did so far.\r\n\r\nEngelbert\r\n\r\nEngelbert\`s Garage (\"http://muelhaupt.us\")`

I would looooove to polish that up. That would be a lot of fun. And the results would so drastic you wouldn`t think your looking at the same car.

I agree.....I had a 76 Mercedes in my garage for about a week.......

A buddy of mine had an uncle that wanted to sell it and it needed some TLC......

It was so much fun to bring that car back to life. I watched him drive off with it and I missed seeing that old car the next day.....Isn`t that crazy.......

Here the first section. You can see how bad the paint is at the door over the door handle.

Since the picture I did the left side and started the hood.

I finally gave up with that old craftsman polisher, and ordered a new porter cable. Now I have white and yellowish foam pads which came with the polisher.

I`m wondering if these are okay to use with some heavy polishing compount. Or do I need to get some additional pads with a waffer texture?

Can someone give me a good easy available polishing compount which I can find in any automotive store. I looked around in the treads and there are so many product, I don`t know where to start.

:buffing:

Thanks for any suggestions

Engelbert

for that I wouldn`t use any kind of foam at all. Nothing but a top notch rotary and some nice wool cutting pads. At least to get all the oxidation off. maybe once you established shine and depth again with the wool then switch over to the foam for the final touches.

I`m not sure were you are still but Poorboys world is all over and the pro-polish will work with foam or wool

Is this the pad you mean?

Description:

Lake Country’s Twisted Wool Cutting Pad is available in a 7.5 inch diameter, perfect for a 6 inch hook & loop backing plate. This pad will restore dull, oxidized paint with your rotary polisher. This is an ideal pad for detailers who prefer a smaller pad size and are experienced with using a wool pad.

Thanks
