One of the local S2000 club members asked me to look at some "stains" he had on his car. He said they might have been tree sap, he`s not sure because he`s the 3rd owner. I went out and here`s what I found...

It`s weird because they have a raised feeling to it. I have no clue. I ended up wetsanding some of them and most of them came off, the rest are way to stubborn.

Wow kudos on the pics...they are raised? that is crazy first i thought etching from bird poo or something....but if you cant wetsand them down then etching isn the problem correct? Paint failure would be the only think i could think of...could this car have had a repaint?

Wowers! Very cool pics! :cooleek:

This reminds me of looking at the roof of one of my cars. It has a respray (about 6 yrs ago) and it started to feel rough recently, the roof went very very swirly (i dident out then there!), like someone had had run over it with a razor blade. Raised patches (that were clear coat) started to come up. The whole roof is now brittle and dry. It has cracks in the paintwork, crazy swirling and lots of white powdery patches.

I am presuming in my case that the clearcoat was laid on too thick and it dried out and called "crazing" in the CC. I believe if it goes on too thickly, the CC cannot bond with the paintwork and shrinks. I had measured by a friend who is a pro detailer and it came in at 380Microns.

I could never see it in such depth like yours, but i used a magnifying glass, out of the sun to view the paintwork and it was almost identical to cracked close up you show.

I assume though that any damage to paintwork from something corrosive could cause some of that damage.

I think you linked the wrong pics. Those seem to be pictures of the recently discovered moon of Jupiter sent from the Galileo spacecraft....:rofl

It really looks like something acidic severly damaged the paint. There`s no fixing it when it`s cracking like that. You did say "stainS", and from the pictures, it looks like there`s a couple of different things that could have caused this ~ bird bombs and/or tree sap. Both crack paint.

BlueLibby,

Thats the CC failure like i had/have that whole area will erupt and go white and then the paintwork gets dry on the whole panel and thats the end.

Out of intreast, is yours a repray? I had my car since 2000 and it was only built a yr before but a got a respray 6 months after it was made. Its probably down to crappy repainters, or that respraying CC doesnt work out to well!
