I have an 04 STI, rally blue. I try to keep it in the best possible condition all the time as far as how it looks. So i constantly wipe it down to get rid of the dirt and dust. I know the dry dusters leave small scratches and swirls. Using invisible glass and a microfiber towel just drags the dust all over and takes off the wax and scratches it up. Are there any products i can pick up locally or anything i can do thats fast and doesn`t harm the wax or paint? Also, the BBS wheels catch a lot of brake dust. Any products you guys can recommend i can find locally?

Mothers showtime is a very good quick detailer. It is like 5 bucks a bottle. It won`t do anything to the wax. Mothers also makes a good wheel cleaner. You should be able to find both of those locally.

Ultima QD and Meguiar`s Ultimate QD are good products. However; IMO, using a QD to remove dust and/or grime carries a risk of causing some minor swirls because there won`t be enough lubrication and because all that dirt will end up on you MF towel. I use Quick Detailers after washing and drying my car to maintain the protection and add more gloss, never as a quick wash. Using ONR would be a better way to go.

I can ONR almost as quickly as a QD. I would consider that route for daily light cleaning.

A good local QD is Eagle One. Cleans well without scratching for me, just make sure you don`t get ANYTHING caught inside you MF towel. But that goes for all QDs. It also leaves the surface extremely slick and gives a great shine. I`m going to try the FK425 next, but I`ll keep the Eagle One around always. good stuff.

that is a good way to make swirls!

even if your QD is very good with a good MF

"constantly" touching the paint will cause marring

Best thing to do is use alot of QD (saturate the surface) and blot from left to right to pick up most of the grime, then refold towel to clean part and glide gently over paint and finish with a second towel

I prefer to give the cars a quick warm soap and rinse at the pro wash once a week and a quick rinse to remove dust three days afterwards. Alot safer than using a QD

FW1 foaming waterless wash is a great product to use on a dusty car as the foam really picks up the grime and there is so much foam that swirling and scratching is very unlikely or ultra fine

Only trouble is that it has wax in it so don`t know if it will go with any waxes or sealers on your car.

As anal as I am about keeping the car clean – I feel any touching of the surface will (in time) leave it`s mark/marring/spider-webbing/etc. Therefore, it doesn`t get touched unless it`s getting a full wash. The suggestions on ONR are a nice alternative to a full and timely wash, but I haven’t ONR’ed in over a year. For me it’s almost as easy to take the extra steps (extra time) and just do a thorough wash.

As for your wheels/rims question – for a fast and quick results between all the webbing of the BBS’s, I use a ‘baby-bottle-brush’ and P21s wheel cleaner.

agreed ^, i`d rather just wait till the next wash . to the OP, here are a few choices that you can find OTC at your local pepboys, kragen, autozone, etc. in the long run, it would be beneficial to buy the QD by the gallon...

I learn something here everyday! I take bugs off the front of my BMW with a generous spray of FK425 pretty regularly. Guess I should knock it off. It`s white, and I`ve never noticed any problems, but I don`t want to push it.

I love ONR, but that process is no where near as fast as a QD for me. What about mixing up some ONR in a little spray bottle for bug removal? Will it "keep" like that? My M Coupe generates some real high velocity insect splatter that I can`t live with for long.

Im pretty sure that using ONR in a bottle is not much different that using QD. Not positive though.
