Wonder how hard or soft this clear will be?

This is on the new ZR1:

Because blowers add weight, extensive lightening efforts were concentrated in front. The fenders, hood inner and outer panels, roof panel, and C-pillar roof bar are carbon fiber, the tooling for which caps production at 2000 per year. The fibers are visible on the roof and hood inner, and to prevent ultraviolet light from degrading them a special additive costing over $60,000/gallon (!) is added at three-percent concentration in the thin clear-coat layer ($2000/gallon).

I read about that as well, the addative that goes into the clear is supposed to be $60,000 a gallon?

I don`t know what the heck they are adding to it, but doesn`t sound right too me, maybe it`s just marketing.

I know the new Carbon Ceramic Brakes are about $30,000 to replace, at least for the Ferrari guys, maybe cheaper for a Vette.

I read that also. a $60,000 per gallon ADDITIVE to protect carbon fiber from UV rays!! The new Corvette uses $2,000 worth per car.

The brakes threw me off also. Does that mean this is really a $68,000 car with $30,000 brakes and $2000 clear coat additive on the spoliers? HA-ha.

Boy I`d hate to be that guy at the factory that accidentally kicked or knocked over that gallon of additive. Can you say unemployment line? :)

Wow. I haven`t seen this one yet. I come across some crazy materials used in alot of exotics, but this one takes the cake! :nervous2:

Knowing how GM does things, I wouldn`t be surprised if the vendor told them to use 6% and they cut it back to 3% to save money. Probably won`t work nearly as well, but at least it cheaper.

Good luck getting GEICO to pay for that!!

Or even better luck finding it at your local paint supply store. Hopefully GM will make it available through special order to body shops. Carbon Fiber Sun Tan Lotion Additive...

If there`s every a problem like an accident, it`s the duty of the insurance company to return the vehicle to pre-loss condition and/or the manufacturer`s specification. If it was there before, it gets put back on.

The car will cost somewhat more than $60,000.

It`s probably going to be a detailer`s nightmare to do some correction. I think it`s going to be a very hard finish on it.

Add up my numbers, they total $100k, the current pre-introduction price quote from GM.

The motivation behind building this car was Rick Wagoneer wanted to see what a $100,000 Corvette looks like.

I don`t think it`s worth the possible risk.

Is that supposed to be a good reason? To me that rationale is somewhere along the lines of "let`s invade a Middle Eastern country so we can see what $2 billion a week looks like".

I think dealers will be asking over $100K, but so far that`s all I`ve heard as well. We`re lucky they didn`t price the old C6 Z06 at $100K, it really out performs most exotics as is, this one will decimate them all.....most all.:D

ZR1 is 620HP, the 505HP C6Z is pulling 3.5 0-60 times and 11.6-7 1/4 mile times, this new one will be well into the 3.0-3.2 from 0-60mph and I`ll be its` in the high 10`s in the 1/4 if you can launch it right.

Those are my predictions, you all can say you know me when you see the official #`s come out.:nana: :spit:

Enjoy it while it lasts. With congress increasing CAFE to 35mph they ain`t gonna be making them for long.
