I know these kind of questions come up all of the time, but I`m really confused as to what polishes I should buy. I am wanting to polish my `05 torch red mustang and my mom`s black envoy over the Christmas break and would like some suggestions as to what would work best on both of them. The swirls on my Mustang are pretty light, as I`ve been trying to wash it properly. My mom`s envoy has I would say intermediate swirls. I know that I am going to use 845IW as a LSP. I have polished my mustang before, but just haven`t had very good luck with the products used. I`ve used Meguiar’s and wasn`t to thrilled with all of the dusting. I`ve also used optimum, but it seemed to take forever to break down. I got it before they came out with the new formula though, but I`ve been hesitant to try it again. Any suggestions? BTW I`m using a porter cable.

Thanks!

Get Menzerna SIP or powergloss compound. I use the PG with an orange or yellow LC pad with my UDM and it works great. I then follow that up with Menzerna 106ff nano polish as my finishing polish and the stuff just works so wonderfully. I know what you mean about the Optimum Polish I bought the new version and am not too impressed with it either so save your money. I am going to start mixing just a small amount of the Optimum polish with my Menz Powergloss to cut down on the dusting. I guarantee that you will be impressed with the Menzerna line! Just about everyone who uses it raves about it. Good luck! here`s a before and after of my wife`s 07 Lexus. I didn`t realize it was that bad until I put it under the lights.

ignore the 4" yellow pad, that was for removing some wetsanding marks

Conan777, thanks for the advise. I would like to find a polish that`s a little cheaper than the Menzerna products though. I see you have XMT pad conditioner, have you ever tried any of the other XMT products? I saw a kit on autogeek that looked pretty good.

no I haven`t, only the pad conditioner and pad cleaner that came with my pad kit I ordered from them. You may want to try the XMT line. I`ve heard some good things but haven`t tried em yet. Some times its better to bite the bullet and buy a product that you know will work versus wasting your money on cheaper products hoping that they will work to your satisfaction. The powergloss compound was only like $25. And it finishes down pretty good if you work it in long enough. You may not even need a finishing polish? Also depends on what kind of pads you are using.

Even for the money, I think SIP/106ff is worth it...

If you don`t want to step up, try IP/FPII. That was a staple of this board for a long time and the results where (and still are) stunning...

Now that I think of it I have some Menzerna intensive polish. I thought it was an old version because I could not find it anywhere, but I just found it on properautocare.com. Is this the same stuff:Autogeek (http://www.autogeek.net/menzerna-intensive-polish.html) and here:Proper Auto Care (http://www.properautocare.com/meninpol.html)? I have the one from proper auto care.

I ended up buying the Menzerna products from proper auto care. I got final polish II and finishing touch glaze. beat, I`m going to use intensive polish, final polish II and then the finishing touch glaze.

One thing I quit doing was "prepping" the pad, maybe ok on a PC but I don`t see why, sure causes nothing but sling and splater with a rotary. Use enough to start with and add a little after you get going, clean with a brush after it starts to cake up and you`ll be ok.
