What a beautiful day in Chicago...the snow turned to rain and now everything is coated with a nice sheet of ice. I couldn`t even open my front door to get the mail because it was frozen shut! I think the way to approach this is to allow the ice to melt and ONR. If anyone has any other ideas please advise!

The entire hood was covered with a layer of ice even after 40 minutes of continuous driving!

Thank goodness for Collinite IW845!!

Looks like I have some ONRing to do!

Here`s one just for kicks...if you look at the bottom of the window you can see that it`s actually rolled down. The ice just stayed intact!

Why ONR so soon? Won`t the roads still be covered with puddles?

Usually when there is winter precipitation, I`ll wait until the conditions are clear enough that my effort is going to be worthwhile.

I see you have a garage, just get an electric heater in there and you can ONR as soon as it starts melting. I just got an electric heater, 2000W for about 30€ so I think it could be worth it. I have never experienced icing like that here. If it rains it`s usually so warm it won`t turn to ice and if it snows, then I only have snow on the car.

How is your car black but the door jams are red?

Pretty sure thats not the same car. Look at the shape of the window.

2 Different cars...unfortunately both were kept outside during this ice attack. +1 on waiting for the puddles to clear up before washing.

Remember that hotwax they were selling a few years ago? It would be perfect for winter weather-LOL

Think of it as a protective coating that *actually* protects against rock chips ;)

It was 68 degrees when I drove into work tonight, freshly ONR`d and Aquawaxed with the top down. I don`t miss Chicago winters !!!! I do miss the Bulls, Bears & Cubbies though!

Care to melt the ice and strip your LSP in easy step?

Does that stuff actually work?

It would be nice to have that when we get hit by random ice storms.

I really never had that great of luck with that stuff. it sorta works but I feel you have to use too much, and it has to be hard on the LSP that over sprays.

Be careful when melting an ice sheet off the car. I would up with a small but noticible sctatch ( 1.25inches) when a similarly thin sheet slid down my hood. My guess is a bit of dirt/sand caught in the ice did the damage. Other than keeping it in the garage of outdoors with a cober, i don`t have a good answer on how to avoid damage like this.

Like you. my car is black, and no doubt you know even the smallest imperfection shows up big time.
