View Full Version : Stained black mesh upholstery: 2 pictures.

I`m seeing this mesh material in a lot of cars these days: Aztecs, WRXs, Mazda3, etc.



This one had a lot of coffee and various beverage stains and water staining.



After an arsenal of air purging, steaming, APC, acetone...we were left with light halo stains in these seats. We had improved the seats 90%, but were left with these:

The flash in the above picture really exaggerates them. They did not look THIS bad. And also, the seats had become dull after our cleaning--not as black or dark gray as new.



I thought about how Stoner`s More Shine Less Time revives plastic, and that we might get a similar effect with Scotch Guard fabric sealant:

Again, the flash completely skews the truth: to our eyes the stain rings were completely gone. What you see here is similar to a celebrities nipples showing through a tight black top: only the flash exposes them.



To verify that the improvement was not temporary, we dried out the seat with the heat gun for a few minutes: the improvement was permanent.



Only as a final step and only on certain fabrics, Scotch Guard can apparently have the same effect as dressing dark plastic!
