It gets worse and worse!!!

Posted this week the problems i am having with soft lexus paint on my 2006 IS220.

I know I am new to detailing but so far I have clayed 6 cars, and followed the same steps. Wash car, get clay warm by moulding in hand to small pancake shape, lube area well and lube clay bar, move clay back and forth over area 3-4 times lubing all the time, check paint for smoothness. Keep remoulding clay and check for harsh debris, finish with final wash. Each car has come out fine ready for polish or wax.

SO time for the Lexus!. When I had finished and dried off, holy hell!. On every body contour or ridge the paint had scuffed badly, on flat surfaces nothing, just as normal. Luckily the marks came out using Carlack AIO and some elbow grease, I was too p****d

off to get the UDM out, finished off with pure Carlack sealant, with the car looking the best since purchased. Come on lads where did i go wrong.

Can you post what kind of clay bar you are using?



How much pressure are you applying?

Even fine clay will scratch soft paint; after all clay is an abrasive. This is the very reason I do not clay a car unless there is obvious contaminants.

I`ve had that before, mostly on soft paints. Even with mild clay bars you will get some scuffing/marring.

Sorry Lusid,I was using Sonus ultra fine detailing clay, with hardly any pressure at all.

Have had both Japanese made and Canadian made Lexus SUVs without any paint problems. I`m interested as to what caused your problems.

It`s that non-metallic black that Lexus uses. It is extremely soft. Like others have said, even with lots of lubrication and very little pressure it will still mar the paint.
