I`m having a discussion at work about the cleanability of this interior. The owner used it for his roofing business and I`d like to know if the tar could be removed to avoid replacement of the complete interior$$$. I`m not looking for anything close to Autopian levels of reconditioning, just want your professional opinion if you could do the job.

I`m sure alot of novice enthusiasts would look at this vehicle and drop dead, but that`s not what I`m after. Just trying to get a comprehensive opinion on weather or not you could do a *decent* job of cleaning the tar in this vehicle. :think2

I am sure I could make a significant improvement to it, BioKleen`s Traffic Lane Cleaner is citrus based and does a decent job on tar and gum. Throw in some Simple Green or another grease cutting APC and maybe some Goo-Gone and would look a lot better.

Having said that, I`d absolutely turn that down. Just not worth the spending time cleaning that crap when I could be detailing a nicely maintained Lexus.

Roofing tar is next to impossible to clean or remove (I used to do roofing...). I`d also turn the job down, unless the client is really willing to pay for my time. Then I`d take it just to see if I could make it clean. :)

personally for a financial point of view, i wouldn`t do it, unless your client was willing for fork up the appropriate amount of money.

but for a personal point of view, i`d do it just to test my ability as a detailer. what`s life without a little challenge?

If he wanted me to fix that, he`d be paying a hell of a lot more than a new interior....

roofing tar is not likely going to budge from fabric to the extent necessary to remove it 50%. even with a VDS, and detergent.

The vinyl surfaces a vds will get rid of it. It may do more damage to the coloring on those surfaces though.

I would start at 600 if i find a miracle chemical combo and upwards of 2k for down home bone spatula, boars hair brush, and VDS.

VDS ? Don`t know that one. Could you elaborate.....

Volatile Deadly Solvent?

Would a citris pre-soak/scrub + hot H2O extractor do better than 50%?
