I just recently had a large amount of hardwood floors installed and was wondering whats the easiest way to keep them clean. A small microfiber mop takes forever and is hard on the back. Can anyone recommend a machine that won`t scratch the wood and saturate the floor?

We have the Hoover floor mate but I only use it on the vinyl floors. I`m a little nervous to use it on the wood. Also if there is a good cleaner thats add a bit of shine out there, please feel free to advise on that... Thanks a million.

About 1500 sq ft of our house has hard wood flooring and we generally use a swiffer wet jet with their wood floor cleaner to clean it and a dust mop for daily light duty stuff.

Do you have any indication that the swiffer causes dulling of your floor? I`ve heard swiffer, maybe the dry one, can dull your floor??

Swiffer may kill pets. It has the same ingredient as anti-freeze. Google it.

Try Method Home O-Mop and Good for Wood. Work great and smell great. I have 2000+ square feet of oak and bamboo. I`m happy.

That appears to be an Urban Legend:

We have 2 dogs, 2 cats and kids and we have been using a Swiffer Wet of one form or another since they first came out. I did the research when the concerns first came out about the Swiffer but they were quickly put to rest and I am 100% confident in using it in my house around my kids and pets!

The Swiffer Cleaner is just that, a cleaner. It is not a polish. It will not shine up your floors if they are dull. You just have to be careful about how long you use the pads as eventually all they will do is just spread the dirt in them around which will make the floor appear dirty, kind of like using dirty wash water to clean your paint. I think people tend to use the pad tooo long.

Agreed. Though I can`t speak specifically for use on hard wood flooring, I`ve found the MF mop to be a durable and excellent tool for vinyl flooring. After sweeping with a rubber broom, I wet the MF pad and clean the floor with just water. I find the mop itself to be excellent, as in robust build and adjustable, which definitely saves my aching back from using shorter handled devices. One negative, the MF pads seem to be fairly expensive.

I should have mentioned the BonaX mop tool is a micro-fibre strip that you remove and wash with your other MF gear. The magic to the system is that you don`t soak the floor. I`ve found over the years that repeated wetting of a wood floor is a big no-no. It ultimately causes the poly to start to lift and then the wood gets stained and turns grey. The BonaX system is nice in that minimal moisture is used, anybody can do the job without studying at 50 pg Owner`s Manaul and it leaves a beautiful patina.

I`m buying the cleaner solution in gallon bottles now and just refilling their spray bottle. That represents a big cost savings. :bigups I`ve recommended this kit to a few folks - - everybody seems to like it.
