I`m in the process of detailing an 06 King Ranch F150 and i`ve run into some "fun" with this thing. first off the entire drivers side was speckled with yellow road paint.. and the passenger side had cement flakes all over it. YAY! haha. anyway... my questions...

How hard is the clear on these things? its got moderate swirls and im not sure what to hit it with to clean them up... i use the SSR line so i was thinking ssr2 over the whole truck, then ssr1 and then polish with sealant.. then collinite. orange pad for the SSR`s, white for the others.

second question is... What is the best way to get the sidesteps clean? they`ve got some nasty grease and dirt on them and ive been having trouble getting it off...

any suggestions/tips would be greatly appreciated guys! thanks!

There was a recent thread where 4000 grit sandpaper was used to remove overspray--that might work for you.

I would think an APC for the sidesteps.

I`m sure others will chime in.

the road paint came off with clay, fingernail and hard work lol... im more concerned about the swirls at this point...

and for the side steps... ive tried, p21s TAW, ive tried this industrial cleaner i have, and ive tried scrubbing it to all hell... nothing has worked.

edit: these were taken right after the truck was dropped off... it has since been washed, clayed and washed again

Try a good bug & tar remover or a degreaser like simple green.

As for the swirls, the product and pad selection depends on how bad they are. Start with one of your less aggressive polishes on a white pad and work your way up until it`s correcting the swirls...

I must have been posting as you were posting the truck pics... The swirls dont` look bad in the pics, but it`s not being shown in real good light either... As I said above, just start with a less aggressive polish on a white pad and go from there, step up the polish before you step up the pad... I`ve polished a few fords lately and the clear isn`t that bad... I usually use SIP or 106ff depending on how bad they are...

`doubt you have any of this just laying around but Meguiar\`s D-Line Body Solvent does really fine work on tar and grease...if it gets on any of the paint rewax cuz it will strip it...it is available from Auto Detailing Supplies (http://www.autodetailingsolutions.com)`

just an update... swirls were WAY worse than i thought... i think temperature had something to do with it but even ssr3 on yellow wasnt quite enough... ill have pix... and none of the APC`s i tried did anything to the sidesteps.. i might try carb cleaner on them tonite... we`ll see.

You did let the APC dwell? Not just apply and remove?
