hey all,

I just did my first detail using a PC, Menzerna products, and Sonus pads.

Clay bar with Meguirs

Menzerma Intnesive Polish - orange pad

Menzerna Final Polish - white pad

Menzerna Finishing Touch Glaze - black pad

Menerna FMJ - red pad

First thing to note, I was real suprised to see how small the clay bar was.

I got most of the swirl marks and fine scratches out. I know I should of used a yellow pad for the intensive polish, but forgot to order that one.

It came out real reflective right after using the polishes and the glade.

The sealent did make it look a lot shinier and reflective, but not quite what I was excpecting from FMJ. It looks like it is lacking something. Maybe its because I am not used to these synthetic sealents, and mostly see cars with carnuba wax.

I have a can of Turtle Wax that has been here for a couple of years, un-opnened. Would it be wise to add a layer of that, or will it "cheapen" the look because it isn`t a high name brand. I will try to take pictures tommorow and post them. Its too dark to take pictures now. Thanks for any responses.

Edit: Pics now added the bottom of page

First of all, the orange pad was certainly an acceptable choice for IP, if not preferred over the yellow if the marring wasn`t that bad. That Turtle Was is likely a cleaner wax that will take the FMJ off. If you would like to layer a pure wax over the FMJ, and you want to use an OTC product, Meguiar`s 26 is one that comes to mind.

Disclaimer: I am not intimately familiar with the Turtle Wax line to know if they make a "pure" wax.

Sealants do indeed give a different look than carnauba waxes.

You could try the Turtle wax on part of one panel, then do a side-by-side comparison to see which you like best.

I tried s100 over FMJ a while back and didn`t notice any difference. You could try it out like Black240Sx mentions

In my opinion FMJ is one of the best looking LSPs in terms of "wow" appeal. I have now, like others, come to the conclusion that durability is not top notch but man does it look great when freshly applied. I`m surprised you weren`t impressed.

my opinion keep the fmj by itself as opposed to topping it with tw

Maybe its because its dark in my garage, and I dont have any sunshine reflecting on it. I will need to take it out of the garage tommorow, and get a close look at it. It does look good, just not what I expected. The vehicle is a Blue 2001 Grand Prix GTP.

Yea, the cleaner wax is the main thing that I wasn`t sure about. I think I will try some Meguars 26 on a panel or something, and see how I like it. I have a can of Pinnacle Souveran on order from autogeek, but thats for my car. :)

Quick question. When you guys apply the FMJ using a PC, about how long do you wait until you remove it? The instructions state to wait until it is dry, but it didn`t seem "dry" to me. It sitll looked hazzy and dull, but I wouldn`t say dry, no matter how long I worked it in with the PC or how long I let it sit in. Maybe I used too much?

And when you remove it, do you guys just use a microfiber towel and do it by hand, or prefer using a microfiber bonnet with the PC? I just used a microfiber towel, and it wiped right off. I was under the impression I would have to use some elbow grease.

I apply and remove it by hand being that its very easy to work with.

If U haven`t seen the car in the sun, you haven`t seen the car. Wait until U do a full sun inspection before adding TW.

I`m pretty happy with FMJ. It doesn`t spread really far l(ike collonite or a few other products, by hand anyways) but it does go on easy and it buffs off effortlessly. I usually apply by hand, but PC application is very easy. I always remove by hand. I`d just add 2-3 layers and be set for a while. You can top with HGAS or any of the other spray wax/sealants every several months. If you want more the carnuba look try topping with OCW.

Edit: I wouldn`t use the TW, for the same reasons as have been stated. Feel free to experiment with it or any other wax/sealants maybe you will find a combo that is just what you`re looking for.

See, I didn`t quite have to buff it off. It simply wiped off..Seemed too easy.

Any special precautions to take when layering? I think I read you have to wait atleast 12 hours before you can add another layer of anyting, right?

What do you guys think? Not bad for my first time doing ANY type of waxing, polishing, etc. Oh yea, I do know how dirty the rims are..I wasn`t focusing on them, I was just playing with the PC to get a feel of how it works before I try it on my car.
