I was practicing polishing on a beater wholesale Bronco we got at work the other day. I brought along my Edge green wool and blue foam pads, OP and OC, and my Dewalt. I tried the OC with the green wool and it didn`t seem to get too much cut, not as much as what I was expecting. I followed with blue foam/OP, and I got just what I was expecting. I think I read somewhere that, being it`s well-lubricated, Optimum products don`t work well with wool, being that it`s oily and the fibers get matted down. Does anyone find this to be true, or is it just me?

By the way, I`m VERY new to polishing, so I`m thinking it may be just me but just want to make sure.

I thought Optimum was the opposite, that it was designed for wool.

i have no problem with it using wool. i have OC OP and OPS as well as black green and blue

edge 2K wool and a Dewalt. my green wool and OP removed 1500grit. worked so well the body shop owner is thinking of switching from 3M to Optimum now.

Hmm....okay.....I put 5 peas of OC on my green wool pad. I know you`re supposed to use very little. Was 5 drops too much?

try putting it on car instead of pad. i used about 6" line. i tried using very little like everyone says but did not work for me so i start playing with the amount i used.

if i put on the pad, i place a quarter size on 4 places similar to a clock.. 12, 3, 6, 9 position.

if i put on the body panel, its usually a thin line

from that video, he seems to use very minimal product. I have never used that little.. woaaah..

Thanks for the input guys, hopefully I can get a crack at it again next week. We`re moving now so I don`t have too many chances to practice on a beater.

(10 char)?

when i used that little it dried out way to fast. and i am only running at 1000rpm. lowest setting on dewalt

optimums not good with anything.. although if your using wool, it should be cutting no wonder what you use.

i have found OP works better than MENZ IP. that is with all my pads

10 char = 10 character limit

Strange behavior from you OP. I always us the same amounts as Anthony (sometimes even LESS), but I`ve never experienced drying out... But if you experience difficulties, you can prime the pad with a bit more product. I have bottles with the thin spout, and on certain thicker wool pads (17 cm dia.) I draw a little, thin circle on the pad. From then, 1-2 pea sized dots.

Wise, mature, well supported words from Al Buff. :har:

Now that I think about, I may have to just up the pad. I have a yellow wool (edge) on hand that I`ll give a whirl.

From my experience and those of my clients, OC and OHC works very well with wool on rotary. Make sure you are running between 1200-1500rpms
