This is our `02 Elantra, with 100,000 miles. We use it as a third car to run errands with, and I`ll use it as a daily driver a lot. We have owned it since new, for 6 years now. I have been using a PC for 6 months, and decided to step up to a rotary. I applied M80 with a Meguiar`s red cutting pad at 1500. I didn`t notice any micromarring from the cutting pad, so I followed that up with a yellow Meguiar`s cutting pad on the PC, and applied M66. I then applied Collinite 845 by hand.

My biggest issue with the rotary was splatter. I tried to wipe the pad off after each pass, and that helped. Any more suggestions to reduce splatter?

Nice job there! I think the splatter is innevitable as far as I`m concered. I have not used a rotary, so I dunno if there`s anything to help splatter.

don`t use too much product (that will cut down splatter a little). You should use less product than you use with PC

Thanks - It has been vacuumed weekly since new. We call this car "the experiment". When my wife bought it right before we got married, we figured we would keep it until it dies, and see how long it lasts doing normal maintenance. We are typically Japinese car fans, so this Korean Hyundai is our experiment.

Really? I was paranoid about using too little product, so I probably did use too much.

I`m really glad to see that you had the guts to try a rotory. I`ve been saying for quite some time that a rotory is nothing to be affraid of. Just go slow and be methodical and it will yield great results. Your car looks great and you should be proud to show it.

Question about a rotary: if you`re using something like a white pad with a PO85RD finishing polish, are these still changes that you`ll leave hologramming?

Or is that only the case with more aggressive polishes and pad combos?

OP: fantastic work by the way!

certain products splatter or dust differently. Just rub them in a little more on the paint with the pad on the rotary and then i put the pad against my side (like on my waistline over the pants/shirt) and turn the rotary on to remove the extra product. This helps alot when applying by rotary. Hope this helps

Nice job. Try doing the 3 dot triangle when applying the product.

Maybe when I am in FL sometime, I can come watch you (and your techniques) to see how you avoid splatter.

Thats a car to start with .. I am alittle more experienced with a rotary now because I practiced on cars that were not mine!! j/k There is some combos with a rotary(pad and polish combo) that you can be pretty confident with!! Good luck with it

I agree. My other 2 cars are an `06 (with 14,000 miles), and an `08 (with 2800 miles), so I wasn`t about to take the rotary to one of them for my first time out.

i like your jr motorsports license plate!! i haven`t found anyother nascar guys here. so what do you think about the switch to hendrick? after the way the second half of the season went i think it`ll be a good change and expect to see in win many races next year. my only complain is the amp and national guard cars look bad at best, but oh well i get use to it. i`ve alreardy got my 88`s to go on my car.
