It`s 2007 and people are surfing these forums on their high speed phones, PDAs, and wireless laptops. To eliminate the annoying and hopefully, superfluous "56k, no way" titles, let`s see, anonymously, who still falls in the bracket.

If only a few, if any, I vote to abolish that silly title.

I have a 56k modem in my computer, have since I got it almost 7 years ago. Never even plugged a wire into it. (Hey, but it`s there if I ever want to send a FAX, ;) )

You won`t regret it. Great value on all three services. The ONLY complaint I have is that the TV digital guide is not always accurate. Its also extremely reliable, the service never goes down!!

Anyone still have the old acoustic couplers - the ones where you had to insert the handset into the modem? Made the 56K modems look like the autobahn.

I still remember the days of spending hours dialing up AOL`s servers hoping I didn`t get the busy signal.

And then I either had to hope no one picked up the phone in the house and disconnected me and/or face the wrath of my mom when she complains that she couldn`t call through to the house because I was online.

I don`t. Here`s my take on the situation

* Putting 56k warnings on threads that "need" it is pretty silly, and quite frankly, EXTREMELY annoying. Look, I was on dial-up for a LONG time - and I could use my brain and figure out "Oh, look, this thread is going to have pictures in it. Hum, MAYBE I SHOULDN`T ACCESS IT THEN." Just use common sense.

* I do not put 56K warnings. Then I get complaints from a few, rare people. Huh? If there`s a thread and it has pictures in it, then don`t you think you`ll have problems? Why are you complaining to me?

It`s like putting your hand on a hot stove, then complaining when you get burnt because there was no warning sign about a hot stove being hot. I mean, come on...

Yeah, but that`s today`s world, isn`t it? You buy a hammer, it says don`t hit yourself in the head with this because you could be seriously killed, you buy a ladder, it says be careful climbing on this, you could fall off and be seriously killed, and if you`re holding a hammer while you`re on the ladder...well, not only could you be killed, but the hammer might hit you in the head...
