OK,

Sorry this is a bit "out there"....but I`m curious to know what`s available or what you guys use and recommend for a step ladder for cleaning, waxing, etc taller SUV roofs.

I know, just use a simple step stool dummy! But I can tell you that where I`m standing a simple step stool just doesn`t do the trick...and it sure doesn`t feel totally stable either.

Any help would be appreciated!

Welcome to Autopia!

It`s not as tall as a step ladder, but I use a pair of these: Amazon.com: Bauer Fold-N-Carry Work Platform #20900: Home Improvement (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/stores/detail/-/hi/B00006RK57/qid=1110756187/sr=2-1/ref=sr_2_1/102-3680402-3941749). Very stable, very safe.

I just ran into this problem last night when doing a roof. I have a folding plastic step stool, but I really should have two of them, one for each foot. Plastic is best since it won`t damage the car if and when you bump into it.

Last night I was removing heavy scratches from a roof (required wet sanding), I had one foot on the stool and was leaning my hip against the roof. Two stools would have been better, although I had to put some weight into the rotary so I probably still would have had to lean against the roof.

That looks like just what I need. Unfortunately no one seems to have them in stock :wall

$35 at home depot. if you have any worries that you may slip, buy some griptape from your local skate/sport shop and apply it on top...

Since I do a lot of trucks and SUVs this recently became an area of concern for me as well... luckily I picked up one of these things:

Little Giant Ladder (http://www.littlegiantladder.com/)

Awesome ladder by itself, but the scaffold setting makes doing roofs and lifted trucks a hell of a lot easier.

+1, I`ve used one of these for about a year and a half. Have never had a problem with slipping, but have walked off the end of it once or twice.

Great suggestions! I`m glad to hear I`m not alone in this too. I love the Little Giant ladder and have wanted one of them for a long time but my budget hasn`t allowed me to get one yet.

I may have to make a home depot run...

It`s at downtown Tampa, they use it for the Gasparilla parade in late Jan/ early Feb. Also there is one at Clearwater beach for tourist to ride on. But not Palm Harbor.

The problem with the folding sheel step is that I won`t be able to reach the center portion of the roof from the back tire very well.

The first one is nice but it is metal and that`s a bit scary around a car.
