I have an appointment to do a 2006 Hyundai Tucson later this week.

The lady tells me the interior is really nasty and stained on the seats from her kids eating in the car all the time. I ask her if it is leather or fabric upholstery and she says it`s cloth, but not really like regular cloth. She says "some sort of state of the art fabric".

Hmmm ... "state of the art fabric" ....

Anybody work on cloth interior on a Hyundai Tucson?

Any special treatment suggested or needed?

Thanks in advance.

A quick google search didn`t pull up anything out of the ordinary..Sounds like she is just re-stating what some dealer idiot told her.

You may be right ..... when I asked her to describe it she said "it`s really SMOOTH" ....

haha She may not think of her interior like the old cloth interiors she may be use to. Ya know how some cloth interiors now almost have that neoprene tight cloth material?

Edit: Here you go --> A 2005 model but probably similar

Yep, I worked on a Pontiac Vibe and it has interior cloth similar to that. Hopefully someone else can chime in as well so we can be sure what I am saying is correct.

Friend of mine owns a hyundai dealership.. he`s telling me its firm and spongy, not plush. Should be easy to clean I`d think. (easier than plush deep staining cloth)

I really doubt the cloth is anything new or different. Hyundai is moving up fast, but they`re far from cutting edge. They`re still in their "copying" stage, so if it`s in a Hyundai, most likely you will have dealt with something similar before in a Japanese car. I wouldn`t be worried too much about the material. Just follow your usual interior process. But with anything, you want to do a small test spot first just to be on the safe side.

I guess I`ll start with Megs APC at 10:1 and go from there ....

Ya no kidding! you see their new SUV? can`t remember the name now but its a blatent rip off of the Lexus RX330/350. It`s hilarious, I can`t wait until Hyundai starts generating their own ideas, its about time they start.

That`s not fair. The previous generation Sonata was kind of Jaguar-esqe, but the current (2006-on) has its own look, and by the reviews is just a hair off the (2006) Accord and Camry. Funnily enough, I got Car & Driver yesterday, and they showed the 2008 Accord...which looks an awful lot like the Sonata! So who is copying who? However, I`m sure the Accord has leapfrogged the Sonata with a lot of features/goodness.

Looks like it may be the kind of fabric that is an all or nothing cleaning.. meaning no spot cleaning.

Some of these fabrics if you spot treat a problem area it will leave a watermark and you need to do the whole seat to get it to look right... wonder if this is similar?

If you do not have a carpet extractor, I would suggest a foaming type cleaner. Stoner`s makes a foam cleaner for cloth and upholstery. These new low nap synthetic fabrics absorb liquid quickly and can take forever to dry if the moisture is not removed.
