Is there a difference between conventional `modeling clay` and the stuff detailers use? I have 4 bars of this stuff called Prang Modeling Clay.. it says on the box, `Remains pliable-it wont dry out...`

I use it to measure hood clearance between it and items in the engine bay.. But I was just wondering if I could get some double duty out of it. It doesnt feel much different than the detailing stuff.

I can`t give a definite answer, but I`m positive that the two clays are different. I guess that the modeling clay would probably leave quite some residue...

Am curious about what the other folks have to say but my take on the major differences: auto clay has varying degrees of abrasives, is under quality control and more expensive because it`s under patent.
