I`m looking for an otc polish that will fix small scratches and swirls but that can be applied by hand. Suggestions?

I`ve not tried it yet but I`ve been reading good results from Meguiars Scratch X.

In a recent Consumer Report Test Mothers Scratch Remover is better then Meguiars Scratch X.

Ok, I`ll look into scratch X and scratch remover. I assume these are light abrasives so I don`t really need to worry about removing too much clearcoat? EDIT: The very light scratches and swirls aren`t really that bad so I don`t want to do more harm than good with abrasives.

consumer reports sucks a** as far as detailing products are concerned.

Scratch-X seems to have a long learning-curve. It`s a diminishing abrasive and needs to be worked a long time to break it down fine enough to finish without leaving any marring. Make sure your elbows are well greased beforehand and work it all the way and you should be ok. As far as removing too much clear, you should be ok as long as you don`t do an excessive number of applications.

PS...I`m thinking about the orginal formulation of Scratch-X, I just remembered they changed it (this year?) so it could be used by machine as well, so I`m not sure how much that effects my comments.

Can anyone comment on specifically on the new scratch X? Are the issues Setec Astronomy brought up still relevant?

Cool test, I can`t believe I missed it when it was initially posted. Seems that ScratchX, Clearkote`s RMG and Autoglym`s SRP are your best bets.
