Hi there,

I`m new at this forum and just wanted to say hi and show you guys my first major detail on my 1990 Toyota Corolla. I`ve actually been lurking around for about half a year, but never bothered to register. This is an amazing forum and I`ve learned A LOT since I found out about this forum. I`m from Manitoba Canada and despite my name, I actually don`t own a Toyota MR2 (sold it last year but I use this username on other forums and didn`t want to remember a different one so I just stuck with the old one...)

Here is a little bit of info about my car: This is a 1990 Toyota Corolla GLi (AE92) imported from Germany. My uncle from Germany moved to Canada two years ago and brought the car with him. After a year he decided he didn`t like it here so he moved back and I was fortunate enough to buy the car from him. The car is worth a lot to me because I grew up with one just like it. My dad bought one exactly like mine, brand new in 1992 (We used to live in Germany till 2000). It had the same color and interior. I was told I would get the car when I get my drivers licence, but we moved to Canada before I was old enough to get one, and couldn`t take the car with us because it wasn`t old enough yet (15 year import rule...). Well now I finally own one just like the one we used to have.

When I bought the car last year, the paint was in horrible condition. It was faded, very dull and horribly swirled (to be expected on a 17 year old economy car). The interior was a mess and the owner previous to my uncle smoked a lot in the car so the whole interior was covered in this yellow mess caused by the smoke. It was downright disgusting.

Here are some pictures:

I am very picky when it comes to car interiors so I figured I`d be a good idea to rip the whole interior apart and clean every part individually.....so thats what I did:

Interior after I put it all back together. The interior alone probably took me roughly 20 hours or so....

Here comes the exterior:

As you can see the exterior doesn`t look a lot better than the interior used to...

After some optimum polishing compund...quite the improvement.

(The car looks a lot better with its hubcaps, but I took them off to clean them)

I`m pretty satisfied with the final product. The paint is not perfect, but as good as it gets with my skills and the products I use.

here was my process:

Interior:

- cleaned all interior pieces (including seats and carpet) with diluted Castrol Degreaser/Cleaner.

Exterior:

- wash car with castrol all purpose cleaner/degreaser

- clay with Meguires clay kit

- Optimum Polish Compound

- Optimum Polish

- NXT Wax

- #26 carnauba wax
