The lexus vehicles that I have touched have had harder clear coats.

I hear different opinions on this, but I had a battle with Lexus over paint, as a result of which I have had TWO black Lexus 2006 SC430`s, and both you could scratch by looking at them funny.

And every Lexus on the lot was swirled. I would think that is the best test--look at the cars on the lot at the dealer.

I understand that in many cases cars are painted at different factories using different methods, equipment and paint, so there is probably not a universal answer.

I have to agree, I own a 95 GS300(blk, currently in the process of getting painted) and the paint is very soft, very easily scratched. I think it all depends on what color the lexus is, if it is black, chances are that it is single stage.

What color is the GS? If its black, it is SS. If not, it has cc and is on the harder side. I owned an 01 Millennium Silver GS300 and took me a while to get some scratches out.

I was just going to say that a lot of the Lexus black is single stage.

FWIW I had a Black IS300 and the paint was very soft it would mark swirl and scratch very very easily. Too bad I didn`t know jack about keeping it clean back then.

If I`m not mistaken, its called Black Cherry Pearl and its a pretty rare color in the GS lineup. 95% definite you have a clearcoat on it. Very nice color.

Lets see some pics of your actual car!

If it is single stage, wouldn`t my pads have picked up some black in the last eighteen months?

He said
a lot of the Lexus black is single stagenot ALL lexus black is single stage. From what I`ve read, your 2006 SC has a clearcoat. Exactly what color is your SC anyway?

There are other threads that show a 2006 Black LS (http://autopia.org/forum/click-brag/84390-2006-black-lexus-ls460-l.html) being single stage.
