Wet Sand test panel - 1983 Hurst 442

Friend of mine was going to have this car repainted because he thought the orange peel was too bad. I told him that I would take a crack at it (one small area) to see what can be done. Looks like this car had been sprayed several times with SS paint.



Process:



Wet sand 1000 grit





Wet sand 2000 grit





M04 with wool pad @ 1500 rpms





SSR1 with white pads on cyclo

Looks great...must have had a lot of paint for you to go 1K to 2K. Did you check all the work under halogens to make sure the 2K marks are completely out?

LOL, at first I didn`t realize it was photoshopped to be put side by side. I was like WHOA!! Nevertheless, the reflection is significantly sharper and clearer. Great job!

I estimated 10 - 12 hours for the entire car.

We had almost direct sunlight for most of the time. There are some spots in the lower left corner that I just couldn`t get the sand scratches out completely without a smaller foam pad on the rotary. I didn`t bring my entire arsenal so I was kind of limited. But this was more just a proof of concept of the process for the owner. He is convinced... I don`t think he is going to repaint.

Yeah but when you are about to sand that sucker down it is no biggie! :chuckle: But yeah, I`m usually super anal about that kind of stuff.
