Detailed this 1950 Mercury Coupe. The car was repainted black 16 years ago with a lacquer finish and will be getting a repaint again a few years from now. The car was heavily swirled and hazed. The paint itself if bubbling in many areas and there were a lot of burnt edges/areas from the previous years of detailers getting their hands on it. Basically this was a “get everything I could get done on the paint within 10 hours.”

Luckily for me the car was not dirty but dusty.

Process:

Wipe down with QD and Clay

Menz SIP with Orange Cut pad @1500rpms X 2

Menz FPII with Blue Finesse pad @ 1500rpms

QD Wipe Down again.

Pinnacle Souveran

Chrome around vehicle and front wheels polished with Flitz by hand

No tire shine since the outside of the garage was a bunch of sand and I didn’t want it getting stuck the tires.

Didn’t touch interior or engine bay.

I could only imagine how long I would have spent if I would had done the initial wash and my normal wash-after-polishing routine! :( I was lucky and didn’t get much dusting.

After everything was said and done, honestly it could have used another 10 hours of work. I feel I got the majority of it up to par even though some marring still remains. The smaller areas where the 4 inch pad could not fit I had to polish by hand and of course it never comes out like the rest of the paint that was machine polished.

Questions and Comments welcomed as always! :)

It looks stunning to me, Chris, but I see the small areas that you mention (hood vents, A-pillars, grille area).

All in all, I think you made the owner very happy.

Nice work. What a difference. Those hood louvers are giving me nightmares :D. They don`t look fun to detail or work around.

Nice job! I can`t even imagine having a nice house and garage like that and not even gravel for the driveway.

Thanks for the compliments!! Polishing between the vents on the hood and around them was the biggest PITA!
