I want to make sure I get the right combo of stuff when I buy my PC, as well as not get more pads than a newbie really needs (My budget is pretty limited).

I was looking at getting the PC 7424 at Coastal Tool (http://www.coastaltool.com/cgi-bin/SoftCart.exe/a/port/pr7424.htm?L+coastest+dgpp8929ff6f096f) for $127 shipped. It comes with a 6" hook and loop backing pad and a 6" counterweight.

From here, as far as pads go, I don`t know if I need (or want) the Edge Dual pads or regular velcro pads?

I thought about this Edge Kit (http://www.autogeek.net/foam-polishing-kit.html) from autogeek, which comes with 1 yellow, green, blue, and white pad (all 6"), plus 2 cobra detail cloths, and the edge quick connect adapter. The price on this is $85+ shipping (more than I wanted to spend).

Do I still need the quick connect adapter if the PC comes with the hook and loop backing plate anyways?

I could get just the green, blue, and white pad + the quick connect adapter for $71 + shipping (still a little more than I wanted to spend) from autogeek as well or am I going to want a yellow pad too just in case?

Another option is to get some assortment of 6.5" LC pads from TOL. The pads there are 8.95 each, so I could get maybe 1 orange, 2 white, and 1 black (or another combo someone here recomends). I believe if I go this route I will also need another backing plate (ie. the hook and loop won`t work with these pads), would I want a 6" or 5" backing plate?

If you have a lowes near you they have the 7336 which is the same as the 7424 with the 6" c/w for about $100, and then you could just pick up some pads and a backing plate.

Autogeek also has the PC and pad kit (http://www.autogeek.net/hk7424.html)
You could also try sending a PM to Dwayne, he may something that he doesn`t have listed on PremiumAutoCare`s (http://www.premiumautocare.com/index.html) site.

Don`t forget when figuring prices the discount you get from some of our sponsors.

Good luck

I forgot to mention, I called Lowe`s this morning, after being on hold for 10 minutes I finally got someone in Tools, who said they don`t have the 7336 or the 7424. I foudn this suprising.

I PC kit might be a cheaper route, something I will have to compare with my other possibilities.

For what I have heard is that Lowes and home depot have stop carrying the PC and are only selling what they have in stock. Supposedly Porter Cable is going through a company merge. With what company? I dont remember, but I know it is a known hardware company. Also if you are still looking for a pc let me know I have a new 7336 that I dont need anymore and I am willing to sell it. PM me if you are interested.

I believe it is Black & Decker.

I still need some clarification/help choosing which pads/backing plate to get :)

Remember, the PC from coastaltools comes with a hook and loop backing plate, but I`m not sure what pads use that (I think the Edge 2000`s would) or if that is my best (ie. cheapest) option.

If I get velcro pads, I`m probably going to go with LC because I`ve read a lot around here that they make a solid pad.

At least if some people could tell me exactly what kind, size, and how many pads to get for a "beginners set", I can work on finding the best prices on my own.

It`s really a matter of personal choice. I like the 6" pads with a 5" back plate. As far as how many to have for a beginner, maybe get a medium cut, a light cut, a couple of polishing, and a finishing pad. That should get you started out right.

I just received my first PC "7424" today. I bought it off EBAY for $113.52 shipped. It took me a couple of tries to win one that low but it was worth it.

EDITED

Ok I`ve set up a few possibilities for what I can purchase and how much it will cost me. I`m not sure what I will actually need, so here is what I can do:

Option 1: PC Kit from AutoGeek (http://www.autogeek.net/hk7424.html) $190 shipped

Option 2: PC from CoastalTool (with a 5" and 6" counterweight plus a 6" backing plate) and an Orange, 2 White, and a Black 6.5" LC pads from TOL $169 shipped (or I could get 7.5" pads for $173 shipped)

Option 3: PC Kit From TOL (http://www.topoftheline.com/tolae/porcabpolpac.html) (I think this kit has more than I need in it) $204 shipped

Option 4: PC 7336 from Lowe`s, 5" Backing Plate from AutoGeek, and an Orange, 2 White, and a Black 6.5" LC pads from TOL $183 shipped

Option 5: PC 7336 from Lowe`s plus The Edge Dual Action kit from Autogeek (http://www.autogeek.net/foam-polishing-kit.html) for $209 shipped

If the 6" counterweight and 7.5" pads would be a good combo, I definitely think Option 2 is the way to go. But if I am better off with a 5" backing plate and 6.5" pads, Option 1 or 4 will be the best choice.

So...opinions now?

My own edit again.

As long as the Autogeek kit has what I will need, I can get the kit plus PB SSR 1 and 2.5 as well as Klasse AIO and 4* UPP for under $250 shipped all from autogeek. Now that is looking like the best option for me.

Just a comment or two.
1. You can drive yourself crazy trying to figure out the best deal.
Been there, done that.
2. Running around to several stores to find a better price could cost you more than you would save.
Been there, done that.
3. I would not buy a 6" backing plate, but that`s just my opinion.
