I have posted a few time about this car that belongs to a buddy of mine. He bought it and (without checking with me) had them put them Zylon coating on it. :doh It didn`t really do anything for the car but give him a built in guarantee that he could bring it back to them if anything happened to the interior or paint. So, needless to say, the car was very swirled and needed some attention. I finally got a weekend where I wasn`t booked and could spend some time on it.

This was an exterior only detail so my process:

Wash w/ Dawn

Clay w/Megs clay and DP lube

Polish w/ SIP on orange LC pad

Polish w/106FF on white CCS pad

(Now this is where it got ugly)

I topped it with OS

When I got up the next day to hit it with AW I noticed there were more swirls than when I polished it out. I ran some AW over it and noticed that everytime I touched the paint with an MF it would swirl the paint. I thought for a while and decided that I didn`t have time to polish it out again so I put a coat of Natty`s Blue on over the OS. They didn`t seem to mix well at all. The paint looked very smeared and smudged. No matter what I did it just seemed to make it worse. I have the guy bringing it back in a couple weeks to polish it out and hit it with just Meg`s #16. I will post more pics after if it makes a difference. Any comments would be welcome!

:nixweiss Either you used too much Opti-Seal or didn`t completely wipe off the excess polish. That`s the only thing I can think of.

Scottwax: I think I figured out what I did differently than every other detail I do. I didn`t finish the polishing with KAIO. I don`t know why I had a brain fart on that....but I did. That would have cleaned the surface and removed the polish. That still wouldn`t have done anything for the swirling I got JUST from removing the AW though. I still would have tried to top the OS with Natty`s to fill in the swirls........hmmmm........oh well. Live and learn!

mose - sorry for the late reply. FWIW I have the same car as your friend, and I am NOT a professional detailer by any stretch, so take my comments as such.

I can not speak for other colors, but the clearcoat on the ebony black Azera`s is as soft as warm butter. The black itself is not super rich either, and will appear somewhat cloudy / smeared under halogens or in direct sun. Mine did not have any dealer applied coating, rather my dealer gave me the free swirl option.

Clay Magic

XMT 2 Orange Pad

XMT 1 White Pad

RMG Grey Pad

Victoria Red Wax

Happy with the results, (thanx everett @ Clearkote & Scottwax for help in proper RMG techniques).

Even with 3 coats of wax over 14 days, followed by a weekly washing with a microfiber chenile mit & Megs gold class auto shampoo leaves a bit of marring. I`m sure I can still learn & improve my washing technique, I`m pretty careful...this paint is VERY SOFT.

Hope this helps!
