View Full Version : Removing Painted Pinstripe

My old `94 530im has it`s painted on pinstriping fading out. I think it has really just been polished off bit by bit over the years. I thought about having it repainted, but figured maybe I`ll just take it all off. I used some Meguiar`s #2 "polish" and took off the areas that are on their very last legs. This took just a few seconds with a terry towel by hand.

Question is, some areas still have a good bit of paint left and would take a fair amount of hand polishing. Is this a safe way to remove them or am I at risk of damaging the paint (clear coat) underneath and on either side.

Also, should I polish in tiny circles, or straight line? Seems straight line leaves the pinstripe "ridges" even after that layer of paint is gone. I`m thinking the tiny circles, as usual, are best in this situation too.

TIA,
