I have some orange peel on new paint

and i was wet sanding with 800 grit

afterwards when it dried the paint lookes matte

is that normal for 800 grit? or did I sand too hard?

I`m debating wether to continue onto 1200 then 1500 then 2000 grit, then machine polish

OR

just sand down the peel flat and respray :nixweiss

thanks

800 is a bit rough. I wouldn`t use anything more abrasive than 1200 and go finer from there. once you get done with the 2500 grit buff it out with your rotary of choice with some light compound and polish of choice and you should be all good. but 800 is way to abrasive for my comfort zone....

You should have started at 1500

The paint lookin dull after wetsanding is normal, the fact you dont know that makes me wonder if you have the know how to be doing this type of work.

There isnt really a way to tell you where to go from here. 800 Grid is way too rough to use when removing orange peel. Most likely you will end up with heavy send marks on the clear, unless you have already went thru the clear coat.

I would go 1500 wet for about 8-10 strokes and then compound the area to see the depth of the lines and if there is still clear coat left to work with.

It’ll always look matte after sanding. You need to buff it to get it shiny.

It’ll look matte with 3000 grit too, but at least you`ll stand a chance of buffing it out.
