Hey guys, well I just finished up 3 hours of messing around with the rotary. I used Edge 2k 6" pads (blue, green, orange) along with some LC white and orange. I used it for a couple hours on a test door I picked up from a local body shop. I also used it for a little while on my fiance`s Jeep Cherokee. I took some pics and thought I would share them with you guys. Overall, I am highly satisfied with this machine. Im still not sure when I should be stopping, 2 passes, 3 passes, 4 passes, Ill have to use it more. Also, my BIGGEST problem is the machine wants to do what it wants when I have cutting pads on the machine starting from the green edge 2k on up. I mean its insane sometimes. I will elaborate at the bottom of this post.

Anyways heres some pictures

Heres my door straight from the body shop:

I was extremely happy with how the marring came out and SHOCKED at how little time it took. I dont think I could ever touch my PC again for correction purposes!

More pics coming......

So now I decided to reswirl it and try some other things (Mainly LC stuff along with HTEC and OP)

Heres the reswirl

It worked out pretty good for just 1 pass....

Ok this was pretty fun, I wanted to know what it would take to make paint burn and what it looks and feels like (invaluable info). Id rather burn paint and know what it takes to do so on a scrap panel than a paying customer.

I set the Makita to 1800 and placed a primed orange pad on the paint and held the trigger. It started smoking after about 4 seconds.

Heres what it looked like:

And here are the final pictures of how I finished out the door: (106ff and Edge blue 2k - 600/900/1200/900 RPM`s)

Thanks Todd!

I didnt go out into the sun, gonna do that tomorrow, the sun was gone when I was done. I think I should be alright as I finished down with the blue Edge at 700 RPM. But who knows, tomorrow is the true test, I really hope I get good at finishing down with the Makita....

I here you man. Don`t get to discouraged if you pull it out in the sun and see a lot of tracers, the rotary can take a while to master. It looks like I won`t be doing that Ferrari tomarrow. I`m not sure how much family time I am putting in, but give me a ring and maybe we can get together.

good job jim, howd you like that lc orange pad? it`s probably my favorite and other than wool easiest to control for me.

do you think you burned through the clear or just burn the product? lol it makes me wanna go do that test on something.

Great job at learning.

SIP works best on the LC orange pad. For average paints keep the speed at 1200-1500 max. Hard paints 1500-1900.

Put 2 drops on the pad and work it at 600rpm on the 2x2 or 1x1 area. After 10 seconds of breaking it down evenly speed up to the 1200-1500 and work it in and remove the swirls bring out the deep gloss.

I have tries the edge pads with the SIP and they seem to bind and get hot way too fast.

SIP works best with closed cell foam pads. The orange LC ones.

Thanks everyone for the compliments and tips!

Todd - If I get time later I will definitely give you a call, going out with the girl for a while today.

Rydawg, thats the one combo I didnt try was the Orange LC with SIP. Man I used it on the Green and Orange EDGE2K pad and is was instantly dry and *super* hard to control! All I was thinking was, "Man, I thought this polish worked awesome, I think it sucks". I had to use *alot* of product just to get some sort of lubrication. What do you mean by they seem to bind? It was like I was dry buffing after 1 pass. The correction of SIP was amazing, I just thought it was a PITA to use, thankfully now I know it was the EDGE pads.

I will have to try it on the orange pad then. Are all LC orange closed cell or just the CCS ones? Oh, one more thing I was putting down a 5 inch line of polish on the paint, is that way to much then?

Also on the blue Edge2K pad, I had to put a 6 inch line of polish, spread at 600, and it was dry after spreading. So I had to put another 6 inch line, and this was just for one area. It may have been humidity or my worklights being to close, I dont really know.

Sorry for the long post, I just have so many questions after doing this, but I am excited that the correction went well.

How long are you guys working in the polish, say the 2 drops with SIP on orange pad? I know till it breaks down, but in general how many passes is it taking you guys to break down SIP?

Thank you again everyone!
