Bought the wrong backing plate from AG it is made for 8" pads. I lined up the backing plate to a 6.5" pad and lined up. Should I return the plate and get a smaller one or can i still use it?

Thanx

As long as the pad backing extends past the BP it will work fine.

If it is a "perfect" fit I would definitely be careful with it as there is not much room for error.

I preffer my BP`s to come as close to the backing material as possible.

DieselMDX, (If we re talking Rotary) If I were you I would return the plate and get the Rotary "#43-150" (6" plate) it has a actual diameter of 5 7/8s inches and is ideal for 6.5 inch pads. The one you got is to close to or equal to the edge of the pad, and sooner or later will get you in trouble, probably sooner!

I was actually wondering the same things you are, so I contacted LC a while back before I purchased and asked them the question. The above was from them!

You can actually use the LC43-125WH which is a 4 3/4 inch plate with 6.5 inch pads and it works fine. This info was from a specific question to "AL53", and from what I understand is absolutely correct.

The best of both worlds would be to get the LC43-125 and the LC43-150 (as above). This would give you the the necessary plates to us from 5" to 7.5 inch pads/wool with.

By the way, you need the LC43-125 (4 3/4 inch) to use foamed wool pads from AG or the 6" lambs wool pads.

Hope this helps.
